In season means what grows locally or nearby that month and arrives fresh by truck rather than by plane. That flower is fresher, holds up better in a warm hall, and costs up to 40 percent less than the same variety ordered outside its window.

What should you rent instead of buy?

Rent anything used for one day that then takes up space: arches, candelabra, vases, chair covers, linens, mirrors, letters and ambient lighting. Buy only the small personal pieces you want to keep. Renting typically costs 10 to 20 percent of the purchase price.
